assume tastes like smoo.
Omigosh, I haven't thought about shmoos in years. I
grew up in Harrison Ar, and that is where al capp is
from. I worked at "dogpatch USA" every summer from the
time I was 14 til I was 20. I had a friend who wore
the Shmoo costume( a huge white rounded hershey kiss
kind of an animal for those who dont know). But if I
remember correctly,shmoo was supposed to taste like
several differnt things depending on how you cook it.
Just a bit of dogpatch trivia.  


Yucca root and Dioscorea root (yam) look very similar.
 I don't know about
the taste and texture.


I've seen two very similar looking things, one that
had been waxed (it was peeling off) and one like you
described. I haven['t tried yucca root,so I dont know
what it tastes like. But I'll look more closely next
time I see it.
