Thank you, for this info, Bear. I had not considered black eyed peas as a 
candidate but since another common name is also 'cow peas' , it makes sense. 
:-) I was also thinking of the yard long bean as a candidate for 'kidney 
beans' since the dried mature beans are kidney shaped and kidney colored 
although considerably smaller than the ones referred to as kidney beans in 
the current middle ages.
