_Eating the Plates_ claims it happened the 2nd at Plimoth.  When they were
looking for fresh water they found a corn field with a heap of sand.  They
dup up the sand and found baskets of colored corn and took it back to the
ship.  I checked the bibliography.  They look like secondary and tertiary
sources, so the incidents could be either option.
