I've heard tell of something called "fondue a la bourguignonne" which 
involves bits of raw meat dipped into hot oil and then into various sauces.  
Kinda like Chinese hot pot.  The melted cheese fondue is more of a Swiss 
thing.
I've heard of one guy in Oklahoma who does fondue a la bourguignonne with 
fifty gallons of boiling oil and whole ribeyes speared six at a time on a 
pitchfork.  Ya gotta love that...
