Thank you. This is my second one. My first (my Pel) was in '93, and I
was totally suprised, elevated in a simple underdress and a dirty apron.
(Yep, called out of the kitchen 1/2 hour before my feast was served.
They're lucky they got dinner at all.) This one (my Laurel), they almost
suprised me, but thanks to a massive leak in the Circle ;) I was told in
advance and I asked to have time to prepare. So, we selected this coming
weekend two months ago, and then I had surgery and have not been able to
do anything for the event myself. True to my first peerage, I have
delegated absolutely everything out, and all I have to do is show up and
get dressed. I have folks decorating for me, sewing for me, bringing
firewood and pavillions for me, I have musicians and my choral group
lined up to perform for my ceremony, and Lady Temair is planning a
'modest' nuncheon for Saturday afternoon. She has been working on a
variety of recipes that can be adapted to finger foods, trying to work
within the constraints of my personna (1200), the event (Danelaw), and
available resources. I looked at the recipe list last night, and it will
all be yummy, I'm sure. After it is all over, I'm sure we can persuade
her to post her redactions and notes, but I wouldn't ask her now! I do
know wafers are involved, and evidently the wafer-making night last
weekend was a success. ;)

The other thought I wanted to give you was this, in my Kingdom, the idea
of the 'baby' Pelican was squashed many years ago. The general thought
is, Peers are recognized, not made, and the elevation is an acceptance
into the circle, not a graduation. I liked this concept, and think it is
much more dignified. Of course, I think the Knights still treat the
newest members of their Order like initiates, so the feeling is not
universal at all. :)

Looking forward to this weekend, and glad to have a doctor's note to get
out of all the work for a change!
