actually, as someone with mild hypoglycemic tendancies, if you are prone to
hypoglycemic drops (or are one of those folks who pushes themselves and
forgets to eat) a glucose tablet or a glass of orange juice can be very
helpful *initially*, while you are waiting to get real food into your
system.  the immediately available glucose keeps you from crashing
completely until you can get food into your system (otherwise you can be
out before you are able to eat and digest the complex carbs which are best
for you, especially if you're not alert to the initial symptoms of a blood
sugar drop or ignore them.)

so glucose tablets (mine contain 4 g of immediately bioavailable glucose)
or fruit juice can be good in appropriate circumstances, but aren't a
complete fix.  they're simply a stop gate till you can get food into your
system.
