I don't think that the name "Golden Syrup" is trademarked.  In Australia,
there are a number of brands of Golden Syrup on the shelves - to the point
that I have always thought of it as an Australian rather than British thing.
It is, of course, an integral ingredient in that quintessential Australian
biscuit (cookie), the Anzac - as has been discussed on this list before.
