Been there, done that.  For two years a few years ago.  hang in there.  At 
least your kids are older kids and perhaps can understand the situation as 
it happens.  Mine were too young to comprehend and though now are teens, 
they stubbornly refuse to understand the situation that was.  I guess 
they'll whine about it to expensive therapists in years to come. I got fed 
up and declared it a non-discussable subject for the next decade last year.
