SC - Way OT: Need advice to prevent freezing

Ari,

Second and third suggestions.

#1. If you are going to use the wool blanket idea (very good and quite
period) try this method of keeping it on but loose enough to be comfortable.
Take the blanket and put it on your shoulders. If the corners drag fold
over the shoulder edge until they don't. Pull the center of the blanket
over your head to form a hood, pinch together at the base of your throat and
pin to your costume there. Then toss the "hood" back to hang loose. This
way you can cover your head (which looses so much heat) without having to
fuss with repinning.

#2. Take that wool blanket, find the center and scribe as much of a half
circle on it as you can (just like you used to do as a kid if you played
marbles.  Take a string, and have someone hold it, or pin it to the carpet;
pull it out to your favored cloak length and mark the curve). If you don't
have quite enough blanket don't worry. Take the triangular bits from the
outside of the curve and sew them on to complete the curve. Try it with
chalk marks first. You may want to adjust how long you want the cloak. Cut
a small curve out of the center straight edge for your neck to fit in, and
pin. If you are really lucky in the blanket department make two half
circles and sew them together along one half the long side. I suggest
pinning on one shoulder rather than opening in front. That way you have one
hand free, and if you need both hands you just gather the cloak up on the
other side leaving the mass of wool to hang down front and back, keeping you
warm and covered.

I don't recommend a cloak that is much more than mid calf length because
full length things tend to drag in the mud and trip you.
