Wild rice?
It's almost black. ANd if you cook it in a veggie
stock would be perfect for the veg heads. You could
mix it with white rice, especially if you used
portobello mushrooms in it. They tend to turn
everything in a dish kind of a grey color. It wouldn't
be exactly black, but mostly black and probably very
edible. 
SOund slike fun.
