The reviewer sounds equally clueless where both Wicca and Historical Cookery are
concerned.

Sorry, but poppycock.  Maybe some of it depends on where you are and who's
running your kingdom, but don't blame lack of promotion on religion alone.   In
relatively 'enlightened' southern California/Caid, I was elevated to the Order
of the Pelican this reign, an uncloseted pagan practitioner, and the protegee of
another who taught me much about living in society and Society as it were.  Your
mileage may vary, but consider that those who bewail their estate may have other
obstacles besides their creed.

Um, I seem to have climbed on my high horse, I'll descend back into kitchen-land
