SC - Barley malt syrup?

It seems to me that I have seen this, or something like it, at the small 
markets in the latino section of DC.  It's been a while, I could be wrong.  
I always go into ethnic stores and wonder what the heck they do with certain 
unfamiliar items.  Usually asking gets me nowhere cuz no one speaks enough 
english.
