The peanut (Arachis hypogaea)is of Brazilian origin and it is believed it
was introduced into Africa by the Portuguese as food for the slave trade.
It is also believed that the peanut's introduction into North America was
via the slave trade. This means peanut soup could have a Brazilian, a
Portuguese or an African origin (it could even be North American, but I
doubt it). I'm just mildly curious as to the factual basis for an African
origin of the dish.

Thanks.
