Yet carbohydrates _are_ sugar, either simple ones like fructose,
glucose, sucrose, and a handful of others, or complex one's like starch.
Carbs are the bodies fuel, and it's their sugars that are turned into
the glucose that is blood sugar. Proteins can be converted to sugar, but
not as effectively.

I was never advocating a sugar pill, candy, or extremely sugar rich
trash food like a Twinkie. I agree, a quick hit of sugar/carbs is going
to work only as long as the sugar lasts in their blood stream, and
between the body grabbing up all the glucose it can lay it's hands on,
and the insulin (in a non-diabetic) being released to deal with this
sudden sugar, there's a sudden crash waiting behind that sudden hit. I
was recommending carbohydrate rich foods like fruit, breads, pasta,
grains, something more substantial, something that will have a sustained
release in their bloodstream. While jerky contains salt (which they may
need as well), and lots of protein, it is not a carbohydrate rich food.

Interesting analogy to letting the fire burn out. Throwing another log
on the dying embers will probably not restart the fire. Rather, you will
need at least some kindling, and probably some tinder to get it going
again. Quick, hot start, and slow sustained burn.

[Mmmmm.....bean jerky.....STOP! Raise both hands and slowly _back away_
from that thought......]
