No, I don't think you should do that.  I don't think you have anything to apologize for.  You did what I thought we were supposed to be doing:  you raised an issue and others of us (including me) responded.  So I don't think that the discussion was a bad thing...though, as usual, some of us should be a little more diplomatic about how we say things.  As I said yesterday, my perception was that the thread was started, albeit with mostly negative commentary, but that negativism quickly progressed to positive ideas about what we as a community of cooks could do to help turn the perceived problem around.

If we can't talk things out like this, then we really don't have any way to learn and to profit from misconceptions/mistakes!  And who knows?  We may wind up with a CA on the subject, not to mention a whole batch of new TI articles of period foods!
