I'm still hoping that someone from Meridies will ring in on this question.
When I stopped attending events feast inclusive (what ya'll are calling "on
board") was the norm and two prices was the exception and a feast was an
integral part of the SCA experience, everyone *expected* period or peri-oid
attempts at food and I never really heard any complaints about it. People
were asked and within reason expected to contact the feast-o-crat in
advance with any specific dietary concerns and those were definately taken
into consideration. (I still do this even when planning for a group outing
at a restaurant, I try and make sure that the place chosen has vegetarian
and vegan options and when possible kosher options as well, jic.) The
feast was the centerpiece of the event, often with great dramatic theatrics
provided by the populace or the nobility or both <g>, breakfast on Saturday
and Sunday were common and expected with lunch uncommon and the edition of
a Friday night "soup kitchen" and/or an occassional tavern or day vendor
hawking period or peri-oid foods on Saturday afternoon being a special
treat. I had never even heard the term "dayboard" until this list. (And
I was in the SCA for 11 years before going inactive.)

thanks to everyone who has replied to this and let me know how the customs
tend in their kingdoms. seems I either *am* a bit out of touch (which is
to be expected with an 8 year Sabbatical <blush!>) and/or customs do differ
broadly from kingdom to kingdom. I'm still hoping to hear from some of
the Meridies folks and hopefully some of the South Downs folks to see what
the current customs are here. Of course, if I can get around to updating
my SCA membership before the end of the month they'll send me a Popular
Chivalry and I can get some idea from the even flyers there ;-)

Thanks again for all the valuable info!

I remain, in service to Meridies,
Lady Celia des L'archier
