No worse than mine. Philippa is a very period female name, going back in
history for a couple of thousand years, with a Queen, and Chaucer's wife,
among others, bearing the nam., And yes, I, too, was named after my father
(story will follow- been meaning to tell it to Ari anyway ;-) Since I have a
younger brother, Philip, and a father, Philip, and they spelled their
nicknames Flipper and Flip, respectively, I went with Phlip- it's closer to
the original spelling anyway, but I am forever being addressed as "Sir" or
"Philip". When I type it out, do these people think I can't spell my own
name right? Gets aggravating.

Anyway, here's the story behind my name, for those who care, but
particularly for Ari:

I was the cause of a rather hasty marriage between my father and my mother,
because back then, you didn't abort (although that was considered at the
time) and a single lady did not bear and raise a child.

While, by the time I came along, they were resigned to being married, they
hadn't learned to coordinate their plans very well, and my mother had
determined that I was to be named Stephen, after her best friend's brother,
regardless of my gender, since she didn't like the name, "Stephanie".

I was an 8 month, 9 lb "preemie", and my mother's first, so as you can
imagine, she was a little tired, immediately after my arrival (at 2:10 PM,
just in time for a nap before cocktails ;-) My dad came into her room, and
strongly suggested that I be named, "Philippa" after him, and she said,
"Yes, go ahead, name her anything, now leave me alone!!!" Thus, I acquired
my name.

Shortly after my birth, while my father was at sea, my mother divorced him,
and remarried, and Ed Diehl, my Daddy, adopted me. My father thought he'd
never see me again, so he named his first son Philip. Thus when time passed,
and we finally got together, it was, "Flip, Flippa, and Flipper." For some
reason, I changed the spelling of my nickname.....

Phlip (who also probably holds the world's record for number of times
kidnapped by family members, but that's another story.....)
