Threats and a careful explanation of the state laws regarding theft. They
seemed to do little to persuade so a careful explanation of al-Islam's
punishments for theft resulted in the creature never coming to an event

I have never had a problem with this since the original incident and I tend
to trust SCA folks until individuals give me a reason not to trust them
personally (as I do with the mundane in 'real'' life). My instincts have
always been good in that area. I would say that posting a sign would be a
good idea but those that would thief will do so whether signs are posted or
doors or boxes are locked.
