Actually it's interesting you should mention that. I've been wanting
to do a study/paper/documentary on how handicapped people in the SCA
have adapted to their arts. Here in Ansteorra we have a knight with
one leg. He was knighted long after he lost his leg and does quite
well in melees. There is also a fighter in a wheelchair that I could
easily see becoming a knight at some point. He's very good. Although
he doesn't fight in open field melees, he is a very good roadblock in
more static fights. And awesome with one-on-one.
Our kingdom archery champion last year is wheelchair bound. I also
knew an archer with an artificial arm. He had a special mount placed
on his false hand to hold a bow.
I'm sure there are others who have overcome thier handicaps in the
SCA and done well in a skill they "shouldn't have". Remember,
Beethoven was deaf when he wrote many of his finest symphonies.
