I believe Kief lost his leg before he ever joined the SCA. I rode up
with him (and about four othes) from Ansteorra to Pennsic XXV. I never
asked him explicitly but from the conversations with him I understand
that he rode with a motorcycle gang and a rather rough crowd before the
SCA. I think he lost his leg in an accident.

Kief is every bit the Knight. Extremely honorable on and off the field.
While at first he looks handicaped, he has compensated quite well. Among
other things his arms are bigger around than many guy's legs. When he
started loading the Pennsic trailer, I went over to see if he could
use my help. He could, but as a fellow worker, not his replacement. He
was tossing things onto that trailer with practiced ease that I had to
work to do similarly. While I tried to be on the alert to get him his
crutch when he was getting out of or into the vehicle, he seldom needed
any help.

Even when Kingdom Earl Marshal and lots of other high-falutin things,
he has seldom passed me at an event without a cheerful "Howdy, Stefan"
or whatever.
