My opinion may be an oversimplification but here goes. Each of us are
individuals, we don't look the same (except for a small percentage of multiple
births), act the same or eat the same. We are influenced by much in our
environments and who our ancestors are/were.
Why do some people think we should do some things exactly alike? Thank God, he
gave us diversity. Think about this: why is it when someone in my office goes
on a diet, they immediately begin criticising what others eat? Is it because
they care about the diet someone else follows, or is it because deep inside,
they'd rather be eating my french fries than their salad?
I have a lot of Northern European ancestry, I am tall (6') and rawboned and fat.
I also have dark hair, fair skin and blue/green eyes. I don't criticise you
because you're 5' 2" tall or have blond hair or brown eyes. By the way, the
same ancestry gave me high cheekbones and perfect teeth (no cavities, ever, no
braces). I eat what I can afford and try not to think too much about it. I've
fed my son's vegan friend (with tips from his mom) and have catered to lots of
different allergies, likes/dislikes, and special diets. (no sugar or no salt or
no carbs or no fats) No criticism.
Genetics don't leave much of a choice. You can control your own food intake.
Anymore, I do my best not to allow other's criticism bother me. And rude folks
in the restaurant, I would have gotten up, wandered over to their table and
asked them if they knew about the insecticides and fertilizer warnings coming
out recently. Or I might have stumbled with a glass of tea in my hand. Rudeness
begets rudeness. It takes longer, but tolerance will eventually lead to more
tolerance.
Obligatory food content: I'm redacting the dumplings from Das Boke (or Welserin,
I can't remember) on Sunday, so should have first results for the list Sunday
night or Monday. Also red cabbage salad, and apple pillows. Sunday dinner
anyone?
Spinach/cheese dumplings simmered in vegetable broth for ovo-lacto vegetarians.
Cabbage salad and apple pillows will be made with or cooked in vegetable oils. I
will be doing Chicken/spinach dumplings, too, simmered in chicken stock.
