If they ate it and it killed them then in some measure it was poison, at
least to them. I react badly to seafood, eventually I'll smother if I don't
get medication. We assume it's an iodine allergy. Iodine is a necessary
nutrient, but too much for me is a poison. I'd imagine too much for anyone is
a poison, it's just more obvious with me.

It was only mostly reported if it was rich people. I imagine people died of
unknown causes that were poor too. Remember, Jews were accused of poisoning
the wells during the black death too. Not everyone who died in those towns
was rich.
