My dad used to prepare this for the Passover feast, but he usually just peeled and grated it, and we gagged down a teeny portion on matzoh. That was powerful stuff for a white-bread palate, let me tell you.
The prep description kinda reminds me of the joke about the guy who was telling a friend of his efforts to construct his own down jacket. "My wife made me go out to the garage to do it," he concluded.
"Ah, the feathers," said the friend sympathetically.
"No," replied the first man, "the language."
WE never use bad words... :-}
