Would it be possible to send me the citation for the section of Corpora that
stipulates how many funds an SCA group can hold? I am unaware of such a
'rule.' Our shire is relatively well off with a substantial main account and
a CD or 2. While we regularly contribute to various Kingdom needs such as the
Chiurgeonate, we have never been told that we have too many funds. I would
suspect that someone has misinterpreted 'nonprofit' to mean 'no profit' which
is an error.
Sources of our working funds have included such things as raffles, auctions,
a food booth at local community events, rare gratuities from school demos,
the making and selling of portable period game boards and jester's hats.
Feast funding has always been restricted to a break even pricing schedule and
has never been used as a source of income, BTW. This is accomplished by
severely restricting the number of onboard spaces (typically 75 -150) while
offering Saturday lunch, and Sunday breakfast to all comers. The schedule of
fees in the past has been set at $5-$6 per person for feast (separate from
the site fee) and the inclusion of $1.25 per person for lunch and 75 cents
per person for breakfast in the site fee. For instance, an event may be
$13.00 for the entire weekend (including camping/lodging) onboard and
$8.00/weekend off-board (includes lunch/breakfast fees). Several surrounding
shires do the same thing. It seems to work well.
