SC - Profit was Opinions?

Well, my home canton holds a day event every year, where we make zero
profit, and usually incurr a small loss... *but* I think it is one of the
most enjoyable events that we do. Instead of charging a gate fee, we ask
for donations for the USMC Toys for Tots program, and meet with great
sucess. (one year we even got almost 1300 toys!) While we make no money, a
lot of our Canton members, and folks from outside groups say it's one of the
most fun events we have. I guess it's a matter of what you feel "profit"
means. If it's cash, I guess we fail, but if it's feeling good as a human
being, we make tremendous profits every year.

the first and last question discussed publicly in assessing an event. After
most events there were most likely small factions (three to five?) of deeper
inquiry as to effectiveness of planning, leadership, host group volunterrs,
execution of plans, guest satisfaction, etc., but not at all a high profile
item. The basic business meeting address was to announce that "All in
attendence had a great time (whether they truly did or not), and we had
$XXX.00 profit/loss." While fiscal responsibility is important, I always
contended to the last that if the greater group commits to taking care of
and honestly/openly assessing everything else, then the money will generally
follow (responsible planning and contented and enthusiastic attendance will
make the money balance in our part of the woirld).
