For me, it would depnd on how much it was padded. Monies are needed for equipment, supplies, site fees, etc.  Adding a bit extra to the event fees would help add to the funds of the group by spreading out a bit of the cost.  Fund raising, that is.  As long as youdeclare that any excess funds over the cost of the event well be given to the "duchy/Kingdom, etc"  it seems fair to me. A lot of groups CAN'T afford to take a loss and have to be sure to cover fees, so I think a bit more is fair.But I
think it is not unreasonable to expect or desire to make a profit of some sort on an event. It benefits the group to do so.

The use of such funds, would of course, have to match the policies of the group in question.
