Well, it might also be worth mentioning that at least half the test
criteria are either subjective, matters of opinion, or simply not
relevant to mainstream culture of this time period. If, for example, the
grammatical standards for elementary school graduation were as described
in the test, it doesn't alter the fact that William Safire's or William
F. Buckley's grasp of the technical side of the English language whomps
butt over that of Mark Twain, genius (and better writer) though he was.

And as for the Rebellion, I honestly can't say what the three most
important battles were. Appomattox? Frankly, I have a hard time
believing that a test conceived in Bleeding Kansas would even ask such a
question.
