Yeah, I've had some people, over the years, who got positively hostile over my
use of "sensei".  They insisted that it applied only to the head of a fighting
dojo, and should therefore only be used by Knights.  In each case, it's taken
a great deal of work to convince them that the word simply means "teacher",
and that their interpretation is a modern one!

Could be worse. For a while, there was a Swedish term for
Mistress being used, officially approved and all; after all, the
heralds had used a good dictionary.

Then there were real Swedes  joining the SCA, and
the heralds; and it was discovered that, while that Swedish term
for Mistress really did mean that, it was often used as a sort-of-slang
term for dominatrix. . . The heralds soon found another, more
appropriate term.
