Well, I suppose these aren't technically truffles, but they're similar and really good. My grandma used to make these every year for Christmas and I'm always free with the recipe because we had a scare after she died -- for about two years we thought the recipe was lost forever!

Butter Boos

6 oz. milk choclate, +chocolate for coating
1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
2 tsp. butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla (or other flavoring)

Melt chocolate and butter over hot water. Blend in milk and vanilla. Pour into a shallow pan and chill for 2 hours or more. Roll into balls using powdered sugar as needed on hands to prevent sticking.

Although the original recipe doesn't say to, it works best if you chill the balls again, thoroughly, and remove them from the fridge, or even freezer, in small batches; they tend to go flat toward the end otherwise. Of course, if you consider it the duty of the cook to eat any "imperfect" butter boos, you may prefer to omit this step...

Dip balls in melted chocolate and roll in chopped nuts. Place on wax paper to cool.
