In Australian Real Estate terms -

A "Flat" is an abode where the clothes washing facilities (and sometimes the
hotwater system) is shared amongst all the tennents

A "Unit" (aka an Apartment) has it's own individual laundry and it's own
hotwater system

Important thing to remember if ever contemplating owning or renting in the
Sunny Down under
