Well, we have them here in America, too. In many houses in California
which were built before refrigerators became common, there's a
cupboard in the kitchen, pretty much the size of other ones, that
have slat shelves rather than solid shelves, and have wooden immobile
louvers built into the back/outside wall, so air can circulate from
the outside. Usually there's some screening on the inside to keep the
big bugs out...

Anahita
who has had one in every kitchen since she moved back up to Northern
California in 1988, except in the 1950's house, but at least that one
had a cemetery view.
