There's an interesting book called _Herb: Hashish Versus Medieval Muslim
Society_ by Franz Rosenthal, (Brill Academic Publishers, 1971) on the
whole issue in Medieval Muslim society. (Found it on a Barnes & Noble
search and was interested enough to ILL it...)
