I understand you can use them as the whorl on a hand spindle.  They are
nicely balanced, come with a hole for the spindle (just use a dowel), a
good weight for a fairly fine yarn. Found that out recently, and just got a
new CD. I have to try that, as I am starting to learn to spin. Won't bring
that one to events, though... *G*
