Iago, trust me. There have been much, much worse combinations of food, and
single food items, discussed on this list. Fig newtons with hot sauce
is only a little unusual here. Other than perhaps the lung dishes and
perhaps some of the organ meat dishes, I think most of the really
disgusting foods have been non-period for the SCA.

For some of the unusual period dishes, see these files in the Florilegium:
exotic-meats-msg (73K) 9/21/01 Period and SCA exotic meats. Swans,
ostrich,
                                       crawfish, dormice, cat.

But as Adamantius reminded us recently, what one person finds disgusting,
another may enjoy. ie: Spam, which is wonderful sliced and fried, yet
somehow, he doesn't consider food.

Along this line, I was rather surprised to see in my local HEB grocery
today, whole pig's heads for sale. Snout, empty eye sockets and all.
Although I think there were two pieces in the bag. Perhaps they pull
out the brain and other pieces. I think these pig heads must be a key
ingredient in some holiday hispanic dish. Tamales, perhaps?

They appeared to be fairly cheap, too. :-)
