Noble Cousin!
First I would suggest getting a good guidebook like the ones in the
Lonely Planet series. (These are the best guides for East Asia and
the Pacific and are pretty good for everywhere else.) I believe that
there has also been a Savy Traveler program about Iceland and at least
one PBS special. So there is plenty of information out there.
Iceland is very volcanic which means that you can visit geysers and
hot springs. As I recall from one show about Iceland there is a
variety of hot springs that you can visit some of which may be more
than a bit interesting.
Finally, there should be a few museums to visit if you are a museum
junkie.
