Goodness yes! I'd forgotten.

However, many NZers tend to be adopted as 'nearly Australians' - eg Sam
Neill, Jane Campion (director of many movies including 'The Piano') and the
musical Finn brothers (who probably aren't known overseas) - New Zealand
very nearly a became a state of Australia during the Federation Process a
little over 100 years ago.

In retaliation for the cultural theft, Australia is known by most NZers as
'the West Island'.

(mind you, both Russell Crowe and Mel Gibson made it into the big-time
movies through the Australian film industry - Romper Stomper and Mad Max, so
that's probably why they are claimed)
