Phillipa,

Buy the good ones and cut, yourself.

So many stores only sell chicken parts, or primarily chicken parts, that
I don't cut whole chickens as much as I used to, but I cringe in my
Scottish soul when my time-pressed but well-employed daughter pays $big
bucks for skinless, boneless chicken breast fillets! I always used to
cut up whole chickens, and still do if they are cheaper. Ignore, for
home cooking, at least, the words 'fryer' or roaster', etc. Get what you
can afford and cook it as desired.

In the old days I used to buy half a dozen chuck roasts on sale and cut
them up into bones and soup meat, slow cooking stew meat, fillet steaks,
thin sliced stir-fry , etc. Nowadays, they leave the bones out and you
have to pay as much for special soup bones as you do for some of the
meat! Scandalous!

Regards,

Allison
