Well, yes. I suspect that such a poolside view, especially if the pool
was clothing optional as is the fashion in many SCA places, would be most
distracting to you while on your vigil. This would hardly lead to the
deep inner thoughts, contemplation and soul searching that such a vigil
requires. How could you possibly keep your mind on that deep burning
question of "Why me? What did I do to deserve this" when you are oogling
the goings on in the pool. And all those Peers who are supposed to 
impart to you all their hard won knowledge in tiny nuggets of truth
might be short supply...
