I asked of the Kingdom Seneschal the question of whether or not funds could
be expended for alcohol used as an ingredient vice a beverage.  Clearly SCA
rules are clear on the latter and that answer is no (here in the US at
least).  A similar discussion had been on the Seneschal's list as to whether
or not funds could be expended for materials in a brewing class, and
likewise, since the end product was alcohol, the answer was no.  The use of
alcohol in cooking however generally removes the alcohol and so the end
product is non alcoholic.  To my pleasant surprise, there is common sense
after all and in this context (an ingredient) group funds may be expended.
I suspect we all do it anyway, but it is nice to know that as things tighten
down, we are not wrong in this.
