Olwen,

Lamingtons are sqaures of sponge cake (usually 2-3 inch cubes) covered in
soft chocolate icing and then rolled in dessicated coconut.  Occassionally
the sponge cake is cut in half and a layer of whipped cream is placed in the
middle.
