Oh, Tina, it is a good thing my Lord does not read this list. He
would
have convinced me that I should go (not too hard) and that he should
come, too, and did you know that there was a fare for $205. round
trip
from Atlanta to London just last week? Hopefully our finances will
be of
the sort that next year that type of trip will be possible, but this
year
it is just too much temptation. I think I will not tell him, just
to
	save him the grief. ;)

Bummer, well maybe you can make the 17th Food History Symposium!?

Side note to all:
I can't help but smile at someone's witty wordplay on this one - the word
'symposium', as well as meaning a meeting where several specialists deliver
short addresses on a topic, actually originates from food history.
A symposium was originally a Greek drinking party, usually preceded by a
dinner, which had a formal setup (at least at the beginning whilst everyone
was relatively sober!). It started with 3 libations to Zeus & the Heroes and
a traditional song, then a selected 'president' for the night would decree
how watered the wine would be, the size of the draughts, and the manner of
the entertainment - usually professional musicians and dancers (and at
rowdier symposiums, hetairai/courtesans), or political/philosophical debate
(as in Plato's "Symposium") or creative competitions (poetry, music, etc).
I've always thought this would be an excellent format for a small/private
SCA event myself if one could find the couch space, though the lack of
ancient Greek recipes makes the dinner beforehand somewhat problematic!
