Hi folks,
"Mostly, I still lurk... I ask questions when I've got 'em... but I'm much
happier just soaking up the knowledge that everybody else here has to
share."
Rose
"I'd add my "me too" here... I find the information and comments so
interesting I simply cannot bring myself to quit this most-busy list...
And special thanks to the Evil List Administrator for keeping us so civil,as
we need to be reminded only occasionally.
Morgana (Oertha / Alaska)
... now I'll add my tuppence worth: Thanks for this list.
It's lively, erudite, intriguing, (happily) civil and just the sort of thing
I'm looking for.
I'm a Chronicler for a 'Society newsletter' here in Brisbane (Aus). I've
been around (at least over here) for a wee while and I'm reasonably aware
that people need to be occasionally reminded as to why we're still here
'mucking about' in the SCA. In "Dieu la Vault", I deliberately put in period
poems / songs / tales / treatise (in the original tongue if possible - and
not necessarily with modern translation) to try and keep history new,
exciting and surprising, and to expand peoples' mental horizons and
appreciations. To my mind, and here I have you wonderful folk to thank,
nothing quite does this like Food, Fare and Feast.
With my editors sieve, I occasionally dip into this aromatic soup of ideas,
research and discussion. (I do ask for the permission of most people who's
writing I reprint, but not all - often due to deadlines. My apologises here,
I promise I'll get better). Away from the Lists, the duty of an office,
songs and blackwork don't quite have the same general appeal. And what
appeal! The menus and recipes are always commented upon, and not always by
the folk who'd I'd tend to identify as the usual suspects.
I lurk.
I dip.
I dally.
For a guy whose spent more time marshalling or calligraphing (if that indeed
is a word) than in the kitchen, I have enjoyed, and still enjoy, the savoury
piquancy of the 'Cooks List'.
Ta,
Nicholas Bawcock of Petersfield.
