. . . .and, a question much beloved of first-year physics students
trying to get used to artificial calculating machines: what's the
speed of light in furlongs per fortnight?

(Favorite apocryphal measurements story: an American company sent
a sample of something off to a British lab, wanting measurements back
in milliliters per gram, or some such. The British lab sent it back, saying
that they were Britishdammit and therefore used Imperial Units, not those
Frenchified newfangled metric units. So the American company submitted
the sample again, requesting, this time, measurements in firkins per
bushel. And this was in the mid 1960's, plus or minus a decade. . . )
