[Sca-cooks] Meat ban

I read a fascinating article a few months ago in the
March 12, 2001 issue of Newsweek.  It's titled
"Cannibals to Cows: The Path of a Deadly Disease"  I
highly recommend reading it, if you can find an
archived copy in the library or have a membership at
newsweek.com.

Here's a memorable quote from the article:
"An American hot dog, for example, can contain up to
20 percent 'mechanically separated meat,' which the
government describes as 'a paste-like and batter-like
meat product produced by forcing bones with attached
edible meat under high pressure through a sieve.'"

I found this amusing and gross at the same time (can't
help it...I'm a veggie).

Mmmm...lunch!
