So, are any of these uses, pre-1600? And where? I assume the
Middle East, since that is the only place I thought date palms
grew, but perhaps I'm wrong.

Anyone have any period recipes using dates? I have one brief
mention in a late period recipe in the candy-msg file in the
Florilegium.
