Hello,

Nestled here in the bosom of God's own country (Australia), I'm currently 
playing the part of Chronicler (St.Florian de la Riviere - Brisbane).

I've got access to all manner of sites but little time to read the guff that 
inevitably flows from those 'all manner of sites'.  So I choose a few.

One of the aspects that I've always wanted to find in the SCA (and though 
rare, wonderful when I do) is the ambiance of the other.  That other place 
and time (my personal preference is the time of the Reformation), and the 
visceral qualities that were part and parcel of that 'then'.

As chronicler, I'm not particularly happy with most of the other group 
newsletters that I've looked at, so when the opportunity to produce 'Dieu la 
Vault' came up I jumped at it.  As egotistical as it might be, I produce a 
pamphlet that I'm satisfied with.  I print the regular stuff, like officers' 
reports/upcoming events/notices/Regnum/etc, and those elements that I find 
(personally) wanting in other Society publications. If I'm needing space to 
fill, if I've run out of examples of Stuart poetry of the late 1500s, or an 
almost ribald ditty/dialogue/digresson from Northern Italy in the 1400's, 
then popping over into this list is always an absolute boon. Periodicity! 
Recipes! Translations! Redactions! The final verdict of whether something 
was really yummy or simply scrummy!

And apart from pre-printed copy (for which I am very thankfull), when I 
dispair that the twerps wearing the Ninja Turtle armour may actually hold 
the Society in their sway - there is you guys (nb: 'guys' used in an all 
encompassing and non-gender specific way). Thank you all. Not just the 
Robins, the Thomas', the Craigs, the Davids and so forth but all the rest of 
you as well - those of you who show that you, by the very nature of your 
questions and comments, grow in understanding, grow in scope and confidence, 
and go beyond your immediate comfort zone into the land of Maybe, 
Possibility and Potential, and show me that it really is worth the effort.

... and that is why I'm here.
