I could kick myself for not making photocopies of the books I regularly
checked out of UNC's library. Usually I was into a project and so the
additional project of photocopying was not in mind. But I should have made
time for that project, this is another one of those easy access while in
Nowhere, NC vs. difficult access now that I'm in a major metropolitan area,
copies are available, up in LA somewhere that is a project to get to, vs.
walking over to the library. (UC-Irvine's library is not at all on the same
level as UNC-Chapel Hill's!)
'The Forme of Curye' almost came with me! I'd gotten a letter about a $100
fine, so I'd written a note requesting a search as I thought I'd returned it
along with the others, but gave my new address so they could let me know
about needing to pay the fine if it didn't turn up. The last day in the
house I found it when someone came to get some furniture they'd bought from
us, it's such a little book and had fallen behind the furniture. Moving day
stress had me pondering if $100 was a fair price to just keep the book. But
no, I did the right thing and dropped it in the book return bin on campus as
we drove out of town. The cover was in bad shape to not be taken up to the
return counter, but summer hours meant the library might close before we got
there. I wrapped it in a layer of the mover's wrapping paper and wrote on
it in big red letters "this is a book! not garbage! unwrap and reshelve! do
not throw out!" I never have gotten a letter so I guess it's OK. I'll
find out for sure if my recent transcript request is refused!
