Honzen ryori Banquet
Served by the warrior Takigawa Kazumasu (1535-1586)
for his chanoyu gathering in 1580,
10th month, 21st day, morning, for three guests.
Trays of plain wood with low feet; black lacquer bowls

Parched wheat gluten and burdock root, together
in a kawarake coated with gold leaf, the edge also gold
Soup with finely slivered ingredients

in a low bowl, with ornamental skewers
Whole roast quail,
the underside of the wings coated with
gold leaf, the feet decorated with cord.
