The bananas which are edible generally have sterile seed. However, there are
non-edible wild species which do bear viable seed.

 << Banana trees >>

The banana plant is not a tree. It is a perennial herb which reproduces by
offsets. The flowering stem grows, flowers, produces fruit and offsets then
dies. In commercial production, the offsets are dug up and replanted to
repeat the cycle the next year.
