I realize the conversation has progressed since the
original question, but, IIRC, the discovery of a
'banana peel' in an English midden spawned the current
discussion of whether or not bananas could have been
carried to England during the period in question. My
question, therefore, was whether or not anyone
actually knew if this was a 'fruit banana' peel, or a
plantain peel found in the midden. If it turns out to
be a plantain peel, then it could have a big impact on
the current discussion, since plantains ripen much
slower than bananas, and could have survived a much
longer trip.

Consequently, does anyone know the airspeed velocity
of an unladen swallow...?
